Our work

Communicating value creation

September 2018

For the fourth year running, we helped the Duchy of Cornwall to show how it creates long-term value for its stakeholders.

Providing guidance on the <IR> journey

In 2014, we created a three-year plan to help the Duchy to adopt the International <IR> Framework. Year on year, we worked with the Duchy to develop guiding principles and content elements from the <IR> Framework and reflect the ‘integrated thinking’ being undertaken within the Duchy.

We started by running a materiality review with key stakeholders, both within and outside the Duchy, to establish its material issues and provide a framework to report against. We then developed reporting on strategic risk and capitals, strategic objectives and associated KPIs, as well as enhanced reporting on the Duchy’s stakeholders and their key priorities.

The 2015/16 report included the results of a corporate natural capital account, one of the first large-scale applications of this accounting method in the UK. And then for the 2016/17 integrated report, we developed a narrative framework around the value the Duchy creates for its key stakeholders and how it responds to their needs.

Showcasing sustainable stewardship

All reports have been designed in line with the Duchy of Cornwall’s ethos under the umbrella theme of ‘sustainable stewardship’ and have been developed to reflect the unique purpose and culture that drives the organisation.

The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) selected the 2017 Integrated Annual Report to appear on its database of good practice. The particular content elements highlighted for best practice were on risks and opportunities, as well as the <IR> guiding principles of connectivity of information and materiality.
