The client

  • The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust was established in 2003.
  • It is the main provider of NHS hospital services for more than half a million people in Shropshire, Telford and mid-Wales.
  • The Trust is applying to become an NHS Foundation Trust, which will give members a greater say in how healthcare services are delivered, bringing benefits to patients, staff and local people.

What we did

Like many of the NHS Trusts that Flag works with, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust wanted our help in recruiting new members ahead of its application to become an NHS Foundation Trust.

Its communciations included two consultation brochures - a summary document for staff, patients and the public, plus a full report for key stakeholders requiring more detailed information - and a member recruitment campaign, targeted at 35,000 patients and 15,000 local residents. This outlined the reasons behind the application for Foundation Trust status, the benefits of becoming a member and details on how to join the Trust.

The campaign helped to boost the Trust’s member database, which had reached 2,700 by the end of 2007, with over 3,000 new members in February 2008 alone.
