What we did
BHP Billiton launched Shareplus, its first global share purchase and matching plan, in April 2007. This gave all employees the opportunity to purchase shares in the newly merged company for the first time, and offered one free ‘matched share’ for each share purchased.
Flag supported the company, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, to deliver all documentation for a global audience in five languages through a member website, BHP Billiton’s intranet site and printed collateral for 16,000 employees without email addresses.
By the end of the initial offer period, over 30% of BHP Billiton’s employees had joined Shareplus, with shares being purchased on four stock exchanges around the world. This was the first opportunity for employees to share in BHP Billiton’s success, and the company plans to increase participation further in subsequent offer periods.
